2021 FA SUMMER
Martha Borden has a passion for the baking traditions of England and France and brings her love of pastry and afternoon tea to Falmouth Academy's summer program. A devoted fan of The Great British Baking Show, Martha is always trying out new baking techniques and refining her patisserie skill and repertoire of petite treats. Her Sweet Treats for a Year is a popular item at the FA Spring Auction, the school's largest fundraiser. Martha is the Director of Technology for Falmouth Academy and looks forward to starting her seventh year at the school.
Christine Carter earned a B.A. in English from Connecticut College, an M.A. in Cultural Translation from the American University of Paris, and a Ph.D. in French Language and Literature from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She spent over four years living, working, and teaching in various parts of France, and has made many return trips since. Her passions include traveling and French cooking and cuisine, and enjoys making new dishes and practicing her French at home with her French husband. This is her fourth year as an Upper School French teacher at Falmouth Academy. She has also tutored both children and adults for several years in French and various other subjects.
Steve Gregory recently joined the Falmouth Academy staff as the new Rock Band Teacher. Steve studied music at Rhode Island College and Berklee School of Music and has taught music classes and private lessons on the Cape at the Cotuit Center for the Arts, the Cape Cod Conservatory, and Score Music. He is also a professional guitarist for hire and the Director of Music at the West Parish Church in Barnstable.
Charlie Jodoin is on the faculty at Falmouth Academy. He has been in education for over 30 years has been an elementary, middle, high school principal, and director of special education and student services. As a teacher, he has taught English, Latin, history, psychology, communications, cooking, and especially the dramatic arts. He is an accomplished stage director and college professor. No matter what age group he is teaching, Charlie is known for his creative flair and energizing delivery. Charlie earned a BA from St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and an M.Div. at St. John’s School of Theology.
Domenique Gummow is well-practiced in the field as well as in teaching. She’s a marine biologist and environmental scientist who loves sharing her passion for science and the ocean. She completed her BS in biology at the College of William and Mary and her MA in marine biology at Boston University. She has worked in environmental consulting for the past 20 years. Domenique has taught local ecology and oceanography to school and tourist groups as well as science to 8th and 9th graders. Additionally, she has spent the past two decades exploring and teaching her children about all that the Falmouth shoreline has to offer.
Arianna Isabella Krinos is a Ph.D. student in the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography studying Biological Oceanography. She completed her undergraduate degrees at Virginia Tech in Biological Sciences, Computer Science, and Computational Modeling and Data Analytics, and did research on topics from amphibian disease ecology to lake ecosystem modeling. At MIT/WHOI, Arianna is combining modeling and computational biology with laboratory experiments to better understand the response of eukaryotic algae (photosynthetic microbes) in the ocean to environmental changes. Arianna is a Computational Science Graduate Fellow with the Department of Energy, and her work has strong ties to both math and environmental science.
Gia Ledwell is a graduate of Falmouth Academy and recently graduated from UMass Boston, majoring in history. She was a counselor at FA SUMMER for two years and loves teaching others about history and about using their imaginations. In her free time, she enjoys Irish step dancing, reading, and exploring the woods.
Gilbert Newton is a Cape Cod native who has been teaching environmental and marine science at Sandwich High School and the Cape Cod Community College for many years. His classes have included coastal ecology, botany, coastal zone management, and environmental technology. In 2013 he became the first Director of the Sandwich STEM Academy. He completed his graduate work in biology at Florida State University. He has also taught classes for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Falmouth Academy, Bridgewater State University, and the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. He was also the Program Director for the Advanced Studies and Leadership Program at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy for 14 years. Gil is one of the founders of the Barnstable Land Trust and is a past president of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod. He is the author of several books about the Cape's shoreline, including the recent Marine Habitats of Cape Cod and Mysteries of Seaweed: Questions and Answers.

John Evans and team
John Evans, Sean Howe, Caroline Moriarty, and Mathew Schwartzman are a robotics team, each working at 6 River Systems in Waltham, MA. Their work involves automation powered by collaborative robots and artificial intelligence. Collectively, they have received degrees from Butler University, Dartmouth University, University of Pennsylvania, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. They have extensive experience teaching, volunteering, and interacting with young folks.

Catherine Poquette, originally from Colorado, went to school in New Hampshire and fell in love with the ocean. She has worked in five different countries studying marine animals and recently spent six years working as a Fisheries Biologist contracted to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. Currently, she helps grow baby oysters, clams, and scallops at the Island Creek Oyster Hatchery. She earned a BS from the University of New Hampshire for Marine and Freshwater Biology.
Lisa Jo Rudy is a director/playwright who has worked with dozens of children, teens, and adults on community productions across the Cape. A writer/editor and consultant, and skilled iPhone photographer and digital artist, her work has appeared in many juried shows on the Cape. Lisa Jo has received a BA from Wesleyan University and an MDiv from Harvard University.
Victoria Santos is a Falmouth native; her love of theater dates back to elementary school. Currently, she works at Lawrence Junior High School in Falmouth and has since 2010 where she wears multiple hats including scheduling, MCAS testing coordination, and directing the annual school play. Victoria has been involved with Falmouth Theatre Guild since 2004 both on stage at the Historic Highfield Theater in many productions and off stage as a producer and Board President. She hopes to continue performing on stage for many years to come and share her love of theater with others!

George Scharr
A graduate of New England Conservatory, Scharr spent the first half of his career as a full-time musician playing rock, jazz, and symphonic genres. Now long-since settled on the Cape enjoys very much working with the students and faculty at Falmouth Academy as an arts administrator and music educator.

Martha Tarafa was born in Havana, Cuba, and immigrated to the US with her family when she was in kindergarten. Martha came to Falmouth after receiving her Master’s Degree in Marine Science and has worked at WHOI, the Woods Hole Research Center, and the MBL. She retired last year and devotes her time to skiing and paddleboarding. Martha is a volunteer at Highfield Hall, Neighborhood Falmouth, and Friends of Nobska. She has taken cooking classes at Williams Sonoma, Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, and the Cordon Bleu in Paris.
Rayna Walters is a recent graduate from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. Her work focuses on flowers and plants while incorporating the folklore that surrounds it. To see some of her work, go to https://www.raynalouart.com/work
