Falmouth Academy’s 38th Science & Engineering Fair Showcases Student Curiosity and Innovation

Falmouth Academy’s campus was filled with discovery and conversation last Friday as students presented 110 original research projects at the school’s 38th Annual Science & Engineering Fair.

The event represents the culmination of months of independent inquiry for students in grades 7–10, with many upper school students choosing to participate as well. Projects reflected the breadth of student interests and the depth of scientific exploration that defines a Falmouth Academy education — from environmental research and coastal science to biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and engineering design.

Throughout the morning, students shared their work with scientists, engineers, and researchers from institutions across Cape Cod and beyond, along with faculty, peers, families, and community members. Public viewing in the afternoon allowed visitors to engage directly with student researchers and learn about their findings firsthand.

Award-winning projects explored topics such as plastic-degrading bacteria, coastal wave energy, AI-assisted medical analysis, and new approaches to filtering PFAS from water — work that reflects both scientific rigor and real-world relevance.

The fair is a cornerstone of the Falmouth Academy experience, designed to help students learn how to ask meaningful questions, design experiments, interpret data, and communicate their findings with confidence. As Head of School David Perry noted in his welcome remarks, these research experiences cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving skills that students will carry into college and future careers.

Falmouth Academy extends its gratitude to the many sponsors, mentors, judges, faculty members, parents, and volunteers who helped make the day possible. Their time and expertise transform the fair into a meaningful and memorable experience for students each year.

Congratulations to all participants on their dedication, curiosity, and commitment to discovery.
