Head of School Search

A Leadership Update from the Board of Trustees

Andy Kingman '00 (Chair, Board of Trustees)
I write today with the unexpected news that David Perry will be stepping down from his duties as Head of School, effective at the end of June 2026, for personal and family reasons.

While David’s tenure at Falmouth Academy has been brief, he has made meaningful contributions to the school. He has strengthened the administrative team that remains deeply committed to our students and our mission. He has continued to add to FA’s cherished faculty, paving the way for the next generation of adults who will help our students realize their full intellectual and emotional potential. David oversaw record growth in development, helped launch our five-day boarding program, and guided the school through the beginning stages of reaccreditation. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank David for his service and wish him and his family all the best.

We recognize that this news may come as a surprise and that members of our community will have questions about what comes next. The Board has already been actively engaged in this transition. We are working closely with Katherine Moncure Stuart, President of the Education Group, a nationally recognized independent school search firm, to ensure a smooth and successful leadership transition. This will include identifying an interim Head of School and planning for the search for Falmouth Academy's next permanent Head of School.

I have great confidence in the strength of our Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and leadership team. Our reaccreditation process, the launch of our five day boarding program at 27 Main Street, and planning for the school’s 50th anniversary will continue to move forward.

At graduation a couple of weeks ago, our senior class speaker reminded us that Falmouth Academy is “the beam, not the building.” What makes this school extraordinary is not one leader, program or facility. At its core, Falmouth Academy is about the rich relationships between faculty and students and the joy of deep intellectual inquiry aimed at confidently engaging the challenges of our times. We are a small school, and a proud and resolute one. We will continue to build on the school’s remarkable foundation while remaining steadfast in our commitment to the students and families we serve.

The Board has set up an email address — transition@falmouthacademy.org — so that community members with questions or concerns have a place to ask and express them. We will keep the community informed as the transition process moves forward, and as always, encourage you to reach out with questions.

With my best,
Andrew A. Kingman, Class of 2000
Chair, Board of Trustees
