FA Community Series: April 6, 2023
Falmouth Academy welcomes alumna Megan Starr ’06, Global Head of Impact at the Carlyle Group, as the guest speaker of the next Falmouth Academy Community Series on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 7 PM. Starr will demystify ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) and impact investing by detailing how values-based investing can add material value to an investment portfolio and how sustainable initiatives can make a good company, great. Events in this series are free and open to the public.
While there is a lot of confusion around the lexicon—socially responsible investing, impact investing, ESG, and sustainability—there is an undeniable increase in assets and interest in this space. Starr will explain what it means to use environmental and social factors as a guiding principle for making more sustainable long-term investment decisions. She will review the tools available to investors and explain what the current criticism of ESG gets wrong to help make sense of this rapidly evolving field.
Starr leads The Carlyle Group's cohesive, long-term impact strategy. She also oversees its dedicated ESG team, which leads the firm's investment diligence and portfolio engagement work on material ESG issues.
Prior to joining Carlyle, Starr was within Goldman Sachs' Investment Management Division, where she helped build their ESG and impact investing business. Previously, she served in roles at The JPB Foundation, a private family foundation based in New York City.
Starr received an M.B.A. and a Certificate in Public Management and Social Innovation from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, where she was an Arbuckle Leadership Fellow, and an A.B. in Environmental Science and Public Policy from Harvard College, where she graduated magna cum laude with highest honors in her field of concentration.
