Declamation Day Reimagined

English 8, with the theme of “Literature and the Self”, culminates in Declamation Day, a Falmouth Academy spring tradition that marks the end of middle school. Each student is encouraged to explore their own interests while searching for a piece to declaim. They write essays to analyze their chosen passages, as works of literature and for their personal significance. Typically, on Declamation Day, each student performs their passage as a dramatic reading in front of an audience of their peers, family members, and faculty. This project ties together the expository and analytical writing skills that students have honed all year.

This year, due to social distancing, Declamation Day has been reimagined by the ingenuity of English 8 teacher Liz Ledwell and Director of Technology Martha Borden and the willingness and creativity of the 33 students in the Class of 2024. Please enjoy this interactive e-book of Declamation Day 2020.
