What can you tell me at this time about school-provided transportation?
Students taking school-provided transportation (e.g., buses) will sit in assigned seats, one per bench, and will be required to wear masks throughout the trip. As a precautionary measure, the likelihood is that students will exit the bus one at a time. As for the ferry, we are in regular communication with the Steamship Authority, and at this time, all riders are required to wear face coverings and maintain six feet of social distance. The school has no current plans to staff and supervise the ferry.
What changes can I and my student expect upon arriving on campus in the morning?
Staff will be positioned outside our three designated entrances: the gym for 11th and 12th graders, the “Science Wing Entry/Room 105” for 9th and 10th graders, and the Main Entrance for 7th and 8th graders. Please drop your student off so that he or she can enter through the correct entrance. Students will be asked to line up at six feet distances and allowed into the building one-by-one.
What changes have you made to how students will move about the building?
To decrease the frequency with which students come into close contact with one another, most corridors will be designated as one-way, while the rest will be lined for two-way traffic. Signage indicating the correct flow of traffic has been posted throughout the building. We have also made every effort to schedule grade-level classes in close proximity to one another to minimize travel. Additionally, staff will be positioned in the first and second-floor corridors during class periods to reinforce social distancing by students who have been excused to leave the classroom.
Will students be assigned shared open lockers?
Shared lockers in the locker area do not lend themselves to social distancing. Sadly, the area will be blocked off for the indefinite future and is being re-allocated for other purposes. Students will not have dedicated locker spaces.
Where will students store personal belongings such as books and supplies, athletic clothing/equipment, outerwear/coats, and lunch/snack?
Currently, students will be responsible for carrying the books and supplies they will need for class, as well as their lunches and snacks, in their backpacks. Hardcover textbooks will be kept in classrooms (or at home) and students will only be required to bring a computer, their paperback novels/ workbooks, a single three-ring binder, a durable folder, and a writing utensil (and a calculator as described by math and science) to class with them.
