Falmouth Academy Purchases Historic Captain’s Manor Inn to Launch Five-Day Boarding Program

Falmouth Academy is pleased to announce the purchase of the historic Captain’s Manor Inn at 27 Main Street in Falmouth, a beloved landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This acquisition marks a significant milestone in the School’s history and will serve as the home for FA’s new five-day boarding program, launching in September 2026. The program will expand access to the Academy’s college-preparatory experience for students across Cape Cod, the Islands, southeastern Massachusetts, and beyond.

“This is a momentous step for Falmouth Academy,” said David Perry, Head of School. “The new boarding program will allow us to extend the reach of our mission-driven college preparatory program to families who value our academic culture but live too far away for a daily commute. The Captain’s Manor Inn provides a warm, home-like residential program within walking distance of campus—an ideal setting for students to live and learn.”

A Landmark Property with a New Purpose

Built in 1849 as Falmouth’s first summer residence, the Captain’s Manor Inn is known for its gracious Italianate architecture, sweeping veranda, and beautifully restored interiors. Its location in the heart of Falmouth Village—just steps from campus—makes it a natural extension of Falmouth Academy’s footprint.
The building will be thoughtfully transformed into residential housing for 12–15 students, preserving Falmouth Academy’s hallmark emphasis on close relationships, individualized attention, and a supportive, community-centered environment.

Expanding Access Through Five-Day Boarding

The addition of a five-day boarding option aligns with Falmouth Academy’s strategic plan to broaden its geographic reach while maintaining its commitment to academic excellence and joyful curiosity. The program is designed for students who may live too far for daily travel but want to remain connected to family life, hometown sports, jobs, and community activities on weekends.

“Students will benefit from the best of both worlds,” Perry said. “They’ll gain independence during the week, structure and support in the evenings, and the ability to return home on weekends for family life, hometown teams, jobs, and community commitments.”

Looking Ahead

Renovation work and program development will take place over the next year, with more details to be announced in 2026. The School looks forward to welcoming its first cohort of five-day boarders in fall 2026 and to the new opportunities this expansion will bring to students and the broader community.
