Did you know that learning an ancient, dead language could actually be fun? This class teaches you the fundamentals of what was the ancient language of the Roman Empire. You'll learn how many languages evolved from Latin, and how 80% of English words have roots in Latin, in science and technology that number goes to 90%. So learning Latin can help you recognize words and even make you better in English. Through stories, videos and projects, we’ll look at what life was like in Ancient Rome. At the end of class, you'll bring home a Roman artifact created throughout the week!

French Macaroons and Macarons— the sweet, the easy, the fast, and the finicky
Martha Tarafa
(Wed night only) (6:00-8:00 p.m.) 13-99, $40
Learn how to make those delectable French macarons that you often see in Parisian store windows.  These are almond cookies that “sandwich” a filling of your choice. You will observe and learn several techniques:  the art of beating eggs, the nuances of folding, the mysteries of macronage, and, finally, the perils of piping.  Plus, you’ll learn how to make an item from that essential food group - buttercream. This is a demonstration class, and the goal is to show you several techniques that will encourage you to make these very finicky little cookies in your own kitchen. While we are working with the macarons, we will make macaroons! These are those tasty coconut delights that are often dipped in chocolate. They are the world’s easiest cookie to make, and unlike their finicky French cousins, you can whip these up in the morning and spend the rest of your day at the beach. (This might be a great class to take as a parent/teen combo!)
