Summer Programs 2010

Summer Programs at Falmouth Academy for students of all ages and skill levels run through the summer, mostly one week in length. Please make sure to check for the appropriate age and dates of each class. Refer to the calendar section for a listing by date. You may also search online by age and category.

Spend some time this summer exploring activities in the arts, sciences, music, languages, athletics and more!

The course descriptions which follow contain schedule and fee information. A one-time only registration fee per student will be charged. Full balance of program tuition is due May 1. Applications submitted after May 1 must be accompanied by full payment. $20 application fee is non-refundable. After June 1 course fee minus $100 cancellation fee will be refunded. This camp must comply with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and be licensed by the local board of health.

The 2010 Summer Programs are closed. Check back in winter 2011 for info on next summer’s courses.

Week 1: July 5 - 9

Wiggle, Jiggle:  Hands On Exploration for Preschoolers and Grandparents with Dr. Ginny Edgcomb,
Tuesday through Friday only, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., ages 4 and 5 plus grandparent of any age, $230 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Always popular, this class is for two generations eager to explore the natural world through hands-on science projects, outdoor adventures, art, and play. Each day we’ll explore a theme such as insects, birds, plants, microscopic life, and seashore life. Bring your sun hats, boots, and creative energies! Some days will include short trips to local hotspots for discovery and fun. 

FA Girls’ Beginning Lacrosse for 6 – 9 year olds with Anne Pickart, 12:30 - 2:30 p.m., $110 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Learn the basic stick skills and teamwork needed to play the “fastest game on two feet”! All players will practice attack, defense and goal keeper skills through fun activities and games. A girls’ lacrosse stick, field goggles, and mouth guard are needed.

Dialects with Eva Breneman, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., ages 13 through adult, $150 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Class begins with an old standby, Standard British. Then students will choose from a short list of possible dialects, including Cockney, Irish, Italian, Indian, French, Japanese, West Indian, Scottish, New York, American South, New England, Cornish, Australian, German. Students will learn at least three dialects and then immediately start to apply them using both scripts and improvisation. By the end of class, students will learn to communicate expressively and convincingly in their chosen dialects.

Beginning Fencing, 8 - 11 years with Lael Laderman, 12:30 - 2:00 p.m., $100 + $20 one-time registration fee.

After many requests, we’re offering a shorter class for younger children. Students will be introduced to all three weapons (foil, epee, and saber) while learning fencing etiquette and protocols. By way of challenging games and exercises, students will have fun and learn the basics of modern fencing techniques—footwork, bladework, and tactics—as well as rules and etiquette. Be prepared to see an impressive final presentation! Equipment provided by instructor.

Two week course July 5 - 16
Renaissance Fencing at FA, 12 - 16 years with Lael Laderman, 2:30 - 5:30 p.m., $300 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Fencing was pivotal to the education of proper 18th century gentlemen, promoting athleticism, balance, poise, and grace. Falmouth Academy and New Amsterdam Fencing Academy offer a modern reincarnation of this classic education, imparting math, science, art, history, and language skills along with dueling fundamentals. By way of challenging games and exercises, students will have fun and learn the basics of modern fencing techniques – footwork, bladework, and tactics – as well as rules and etiquette. This is a two week course. Prepare for a dazzling final performance! Equipment provided by the instructor.

Three week course July 5 - 22
FUNdamentals of Robotics with Fred Jaffre, Phil Bouxsein and Reed Christenson, July 5 - 22, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., M - Th for three weeks, ages 11 - 14, $305 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Innovative technology is shaping the way we do things. One of the most effective means to create technology is to develop an understanding of its dynamic and programming properties. This three-week course will introduce students to the fundamentals of robotics including conceptual development, mechanical and electrical engineering, software programming and fabrication. It will encourage problem solving, reflective thinking, creative energy and teamwork. We will reinforce theory through hands-on practicals using Lego Mindstorm Robotic Invention Systems where students will create inventive robots and program their creation to do specific tasks.

Week 2:  July 12 - 16

FA Soccer for Boys and Girls, 6 - 9 Years with Ed Lott, 9:00 - noon, $120 + one-time registration fee.

We offer basic and intermediate instruction in a supportive atmosphere and emphasize individual skill development for use in practice and games. Our head coaches, who are teachers at Falmouth Academy and other independent schools, help every child succeed and have fun playing soccer.

Outdoor Survival Skills with Mike Campbell, 9:00 - 11:30, ages 9 - 12, $140 + one-time registration fee.

Learn how to survive in the wilds of Cape Cod. From navigating with a compass to fire building and danger avoidance to shelter construction and edible plant identification, students will learn how to tackle and endure challenges one might face on a camping trip. We use brainstorming, teamwork and game playing to create strategies for survival. First-year students will receive a compass. Veterans will get a new survival tool… to be determined! This safe and informative course was a big hit the past two summers!

New Games and Sports with Mike Campbell, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $120 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Are you tired of playing the same old games? Then this is the program for you. This non-stop class will be a mix of different games and exciting sports. Activities will include Frisbee, Alaskan Baseball, crate-ball, and other fun and active games.

Road Trip Cape Cod:  July with Stephanie Mastroianni, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., ages 11 - 14, $350 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Students will Road Trip Cape Cod with daily adventures as they learn and appreciate important history, natural beauty, fascinating resources and recreational enjoyment that encompass our unique area of the world. Day trips include:  Provincetown to explore its art and rich history; Martha’s Vineyard via ferry and bikes; Brewster’s Nickerson State Park for hiking and picnicking; Sandwich’s museums, galleries and extensive boardwalk; bike trip to Woods Hole to tour the world-renowned science institutions and take a hands-on trip aboard a marine-collection vessel at sea. Be prepared to stop for ice cream and have lots of fun!

Week 3: July 19 - 23

Nature Explorations with Mike Campbell, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m., ages 9 - 12, $140 + one time registration fee.

Want to go on a hike and catch dragonflies or maybe turn over some rocks and look for salamanders? In Nature Exploration we will do all that and more under the guidance of a nature enthusiast. Naturalism, biology, and protecting our eco system will be some of the topics we will explore while experience the great outdoors.

Acting Workshop for Teens and Adults:  Scenes from Contemporary American Playwrights with Jacek Zuzanski, 2:30 - 5:30 p.m., ages 13 through adult, $160 + $20 one time registration fee.

Students will explore the elements of the actor’s craft through theatre games, expression, sensory and imagination exercises, and improvisation. They will then have a chance to apply the various acting skills they learn by analyzing and working on monologues and scenes from contemporary American playwrights including scenes from Mamet, Stoppard, Shepard, Durang and Dietz. Jacek is a favorite acting coach and adults are welcome.

Week 4: July 26 - 30

FA Basketball Camp for Girls with Gus Adams, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m., ages 10 - 13, $160 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Campers will work on skill development and team play and take part in three-on-three and five-on-five games. At the end of camp, new skills will be put to the test and prizes will be awarded!

Potter’s Wheel Workshop for Teens and Adults with Sarah Caruso, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., ages 13 through adult, $190 + $20 one-time registration fee.

This class focuses on the basics of ceramics and wheel throwing including the mechanics of centering, trimming, and finishing pieces. Those interested will explore altering thrown forms through paddling, faceting, incising, or adding hand-built pieces. Students will learn basic firing and glazing techniques. This is a hands-on, get down-and-dirty course!

Special Saturday Class, July 31
Accents:  a Quick Tour of the World, Dialect-Style with Eva Breneman, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., ages 13 though adult, $60 + $20 one-time registration fee.

During this intensive, one-day course, we will twist and turn our voices—a la Meryl Streep, Mike Myers and Peter Sellers! We will touch on several dialects and then immediately start to apply them using improvisation and theatre games. We will begin with an old standby, Standard British. You may choose other dialects including:  Cockney, Irish, Italian, Indian, French, Japanese, West Indian, Scottish, New York, American South, New England, Cornish, Australian, and German.

Summer Sounds Music Camp with George Scharr, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. August 2 - 6 and 9 - 15, ages 11 - 18. For further information and registration materials, check the Web site or phone 508-566-5278.

Now in its eighth year, Summer Sounds Music Camp (SSMC) brings together young musicians and gives them the opportunity to work with some of the area’s best professionals in a fun and relaxing environment. Students entering grades 6 thru 12 with a minimum of two years playing experience are welcome.

Face to Face:  Essentials of Portrait Drawing and Painting with Jan Lhormer, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday only, ages 13 through adult, $100 + $20 one-time registration fee.

This four-day class for teens and adults will cover basic principles of drawing heads and faces such as proportion and rendering forms of the features within a light source. Students learn to develop quick sketches into complete drawings and then go on to paint. We will look at examples by masters such as Leonardo Di Vinci, John Singer Sargent, Artemesia Gentilleschi and Vincent Van Gogh.

FA Lacrosse Camp for Boys with Stephen Kapulka, 9:00 - 1:00 p.m., ages 8 - 15, $170 + $20 one-time registration fee.

The program is geared to beginning and intermediate players. Students build skills, learn strategies and play two full-field games each day. Qualified and top-notch instructors have backgrounds in high school teaching and varsity lacrosse coaching.

The Creative Arts Workshop at Falmouth Academy

July 5 - August 6

These classes are designed for children 7 to 12 years old. Each week features 4 workshops; students may choose one.

The daily schedule:
8:15 - 9:00 a.m. - early arrivals check-in
9:00 - 11:30 a.m. - workshops
11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. - group fun
12:15 - 12:30 p.m. - pick-up

The Creative Arts Workshops offer children a unique opportunity to explore a particular subject of interest while enjoying the company of new friends. The faculty are dynamic professional artists who have experience in teaching their area of expertise. Along with the chosen workshop, students will have the opportunity to participate in the week’s group project, enjoy snacks and talks with other students and play active games in the gym and outdoors to unwind at the end of the morning.

Tuition is $235 each week with a $20 one-time registration fee.

Week 1: July 5 - 9

Stick-Style Houses with Alfie Glover, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Students will work in groups to build a small village of stick houses (4’ x 4’ x 5’) made from branches and materials they gather in the woods. Then they will dress the houses with strips of colorful fabric dyed in large tubs-using lots of color! Any leftover fabric will become magic wands or other masterpieces to take home. A group effort and one that’s sure to stimulate creativity!

Treasure Boxes with Marite Burns, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Students will make treasure and trinket boxes from clay, both hand built and on the pottery wheel. The boxes can be square or round, or any shape wanted. Before the boxes are fired and glazed, texture will be added and the tops decorated. These are sure to make a treasured keepsake!

Acting I with Jacek Zuzanski, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Enjoy theatre games, movement and vocal exercises, pantomime and improvisation. From auditioning to final production, this class is a fun way to learn the elements of theatre production. Students will act, create sets and costumes, and invite family and friends for the final show!

Landscape:  Ansel Adams, Grant Wood, and Georgia O’Keeffe with Sandy Nickerson, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Students will explore landscape through the eyes of three different artists. Young artists will learn what is unique about each artist’s work. Discussions will include ways that composition affects the emotional impact of the work. Students will then create landscapes inspired by these artists.

Week 2:  July 12 - 16

Fort Building with Jacek Zuzanski and Sarah Caruso, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Brought back by overwhelming popular demand, two teams will build forts in an old-fashioned style on the edge of Beebe Woods. Learn clever building techniques. Draft your plans inside, but all else is outside, rain or shine—so come prepared! On the last day expect to launch a fun-filled mock battle with water balloons before the sites go back to their natural state. Students will make hand-painted kerchiefs to wear on the last day and take home!

Gnome Homes with Marite Burns, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Children will make mushroom houses using the slab building method with clay. They will learn about gnomes and fairies:  how they live, what they eat and how they work and play. The gnome houses will be decorated with furniture and cut out windows. At the end of the week the children will take the gnome houses home, place them in their garden and hopefully attract gnomes to come live in them!

Broadway Kids with Cathy Lemay, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Children will have fun learning how to perform as they sing, create skits and dances, and work on their improvisational skills! On the last day they will perform their favorite pieces for family and friends. Break a leg!!!

Week 3:  July 19 - 23

Puppets from Start to Finish with Jacek Zuzanski, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Design and build your own puppets and plan a performance for your workshop friends and family with a zany cast of characters. These presentations are always a huge hit!

Mixing it Up with Collage and Printmaking with Sandy Nickerson, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

As they say, “variety is the spice of life!” Each day young artists will create a work using a range of materials and media. Color, texture, and composition will be considered and the results will be spicy!

Ocean Art and Sea Creatures with Marite Burns, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Using objects found at the beach, students will create many decorative crafts, things that hang on the wall, necklaces, and mobiles. They will paint pictures of real and imaginary sea creatures and make sea creatures out of Fimo, an oven-baked polymer clay.

Clayworks:  Two Weeks of Clay with Sarah Caruso, July 19 - 30, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Students will learn many different methods of hand building with an emphasis on sculptures and personal projects, and they will also have the opportunity to experiment on the pottery wheel. The session ends with a raku firing outside!

Week 4:  July 26 - 30

Drawing and Painting with Sandy Nickerson, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Young artists will use a variety of drawing tools and media to create still life, landscape and figurative compositions. The drawings will inspire the paintings!

Wet, Wild and Wooly with Felting with Wendy Bagley, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Explore the wonders of wool fiber. Colors, texture, soap and water are magically transformed into objects and pictures of surprise…what fun!

Advanced Acting for Two Weeks:  a Theatre Production with Jacek Zuzanski, July 26 - August 6, 9:00 - 12:00 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $470 + $20 one-time registration fee.

This two week long acting and theatre production class will focus on producing a top-notch performance. Audition for parts using basic theatrical principles stressing elocution and voice emission, body movement and group composition. Students will learn how to use their imagination and work with their peers to create characters. They will also design and build sets, props and costumes. The act will go on the road on the last Thursday to perform at the Cotuit Art Center. Bringing it back home, on the last day, the actors will perform for family, friends and the workshop community at Falmouth Academy!

Week 5:  August 2 - 6

Batik Creations with Sheila Payne, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 9 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

In this hugely popular class, plain white surfaces will be transformed into brilliant pictures of the students’ design using intricate tools, hot wax and dyes. This ancient technology is challenging and a tremendous amount of fun!

Me Totems with Alfie Glover, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Children will learn about the symbolism and history of totems. Taking a self-portrait photograph, each student will create personal totem staffs and wall hangings. All parts of the photo as well as miscellaneous found objects, dyed fabrics will be used to make a magical totem which will be mounted on boards and used as wall-hangings. These will be keepers!

Advanced Ceramics with Sarah Caruso, 8:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ages 7 - 12, $235 + $20 one-time registration fee.

Students will complete one major hand-built project and spend lots of time on the potter’s wheel working on the basics of centering, throwing and trimming. They will then glaze and fire their best work. See how clay inspires your child’s imagination!

The Children’s Theatre Workshop at Falmouth Academy with Sally Egan

July 5th – August 6th

These classes are designed for children 5 to 8 years old.
Sally will guide children as they enliven a classic tale through acting, singing, script writing, set and costume creations. The children will produce their own playbills and program and make new friends. We will learn about teamwork as we work together to create theatre-magic for families and friends at the end of the week. The program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., each day with a final performance each Friday at 12:00 p.m. and a souvenir playbill to take home. Choose one or more of the workshops listed below. Tuition is $205 per week with a $20 one-time registration fee.

Week 1: July 5 - 9

Peter Pan and the Mermaids with Sally Egan
9:00 - 12:00 p.m., ages 5 - 8, $205 + $20 one-time registration fee.
Pirates, hidden treasures, Wendy, the Lost Boys and magical sea creatures surround Peter Pan as he performs his daring deeds in this play. Children will revel in Peter’s adventures as they perform the play for family and friends at the end of the week.

Week 2:  July 12 - 16

Inch to Foot: Dollhouse People and Action Figures with Sally Egan
9:00 - 12:00 p.m., ages 5 - 8, $205 + $20 one-time registration fee.
For something a little different, this is NOT a week of theatre. Discover measurements in a camp where campers make an Inch Doll or Action Figure and create their dwelling on the first day. The rest of the week a world will emerge as art, commerce and leisure activities develop for their Inch Dolls or Action Figures. On the last day, friends and family will be invited to explore this new world.

Week 3:  July 19 - 23

A Midsummer Dream with Sally Egan
9:00 - 12:00 p.m., ages 5 - 8, $205 + $20 one-time registration fee.
Based on some of the more magical folk who inhabit Shakespeare’s plays as well of a few of his incomparable confused humans—children will learn some of the beautiful and famous lines from Shakespeare’s plays as they produce a child-sized version of Midsummer merriment in the fairy world! At the end of the week the pint-sized Shakespeareans will perform for family and friends.

Week 4:  July 26 - 30

Robin Hood and the Fairies in the Forest with Sally Egan
9:00 - 12:00 p.m., ages 5 - 8, $205 + $20 one-time registration fee.
Robin Hood is surrounded by fairies and other merry characters as he fights for justice in Sherwood Forest. Children will join Robin Hood’s troop as they perform for family and friends at the end of the week.

Week 5:  August 2 - 6

Snow White and the Seven Amigos with Sally Egan
9:00 - 12:00 p.m., ages 5 - 8, $205 + $20 one-time registration fee.
This is the classic tale with a twist.  A poison apple (or maybe a poison burrito!), a beautiful damsel, and seven very silly amigos all take part in the battle between good and evil! At the end of the week the children will perform for family and friends. Sure to be a pleasant experience!

Summer Program faculty

Gus Adams is no stranger to athletics. He played college basketball and has coached many teams ranging from girls varsity at Falmouth Academy to assistant coaching boys varsity at Falmouth High School. He has been Director of Falmouth Youth Basketball and is currently co-owner of Falmouth Physical Therapy where he is also a personal trainer.

Wendy Bagley, who received her art degree from the Swain School of Design, has lived and worked on Naushon Island for the past 15 years. She is a master weaver for the Forbes family and has taught weaving and felting workshops to children and adults throughout New England. 

Philip Bouxsein earned a B.S.E. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan.  He furthered his education at Florida Atlantic University by receiving a M.S.E. in Ocean Engineering with a focus on autonomous underwater vehicles. He works at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution doing design, analysis, and field support for underwater vehicles.

Eva Breneman is a freelance voice and dialect coach whose work can be heard on the Patrick Swayze’s series The Beast, as well as on the stages of theatres such as the Steppenwolf, the Goodman, and the Lookingglass. Director and dialect coach for the New York, Edinburgh and London premieres of the award-winning play “Nine Parts of Desire,” she has taught voice, acting, and Shakespeare at Lake Forest College, Roosevelt University and North Park University. She holds an M.A. from The Central School of Speech and Drama in London, and a B.F.A. from NYU. She is a production affiliate at the Lookingglass Theatre Company and an artistic associate at the Timeline Theatre Company, both in Chicago.

Marite Burns, a potter and fused-art glass artist is a certified art teacher with 30 years of teaching experience. She graduated from the University of Connecticut and has a M.A.T. from Bridgewater State College. She has studied at Truro Center for the Arts, Haystack School of Crafts, Maine College of Art and the Massachusetts College of Art. Her Web site is www.arealglassact.com.

Michael Campbell has been an outdoor enthusiast since he was a child and spent summers at his uncle’s log cabin on Lake Winnipesauke. He has worked with children on outdoor activities for many years. A math major, Mike uses his knowledge of problem solving to tackle the challenges. As an “Ultimate” coach, Michael Campbell, has thrown Frisbees for over 9 years. His background in working with kids and his mathematical mind make him the ultimate teacher. 

Sarah Caruso is an accomplished potter who holds a B.S. in studio art from Skidmore College and an M.S. in art education from The College of Saint Rose. Her work is on display at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA. and her teaching experience includes work at The DeCordova Museum and the Cape Cod Museum of Arts. This is Sarah’s sixth year teaching at Creative Arts.

Reed Christenson earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska. While working on his M.S. in Computer Engineering, he developed software for wafer handling robots as well as designing electrical and mechanical systems for Spectroscopic Ellipsometers. He worked with MIT’s start up company Bluefin Robotics Corporation where he developed software and integrating sensors for AUVs.  In Italy he worked with NATO’s Undersea Research Centre. Currently, he works at W.H.O.I. as a software engineer where he develops software for the REMUS AUVs.

Sally Egan is dedicated to the education and creative expression of young children. Her popular Children’s Theatre programs have delighted children for the past seven summers.  She is currently the lead teacher and director of the Falmouth Conservatory’s Nursery-Kindergarten program. 

Dr. Ginny Edgcomb has taught science to middles-chool students at Falmouth Academy for eight years. A microbial ecologist, she is also a research associate at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Prior to moving to Cape Cod she taught environmental education classes for many years to children and adults through the Delaware Nature Society. 

Alfie Glover is renowned in New England for his whimsical wood sculptures and his workshops for adults and children are in great demand. His work is widely exhibited and is in many collections, including Boston Children’s Hospital, Duxbury Art Complex Museum, Cahoon Museum of American Art and in The Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis. Fred Jaffre earned his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the French engineering school, Institut Superieur de Toulon et du Var. He joined the Oceanographic Systems Laboratory at Woods Hole Oceanographic as an electrical engineer in 2003. He works on underwater instrumentation design, control systems, analog and digital electronics and signal processing.

Stephen Kapulka earned a MEd from Boston College and, along with teaching sixth grade in Falmouth, he coaches U11 Youth Lacrosse and is a member of the Board of Directors for Falmouth Youth Lacrosse. He was junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach at Falmouth High School and, prior to moving back to Falmouth, he was head junior varsity Coach at Norwell High School.

Lael Laderman earned a B.A. from New York University with a major in Medieval and Renaissance History and has been fencing for 9 years and coaching fencing for 4 years at New Amsterdam Fencing Academy located in New York. She has taught both boys and girls ages 4 through adults, both for competitive fencing and recreational fencing, including coaching fencing camps and clinics. Cathy Lemay has taught for 21 years. She earned an M.Ed. with a focus on Creative Arts in Learning. In her “spare time” she enjoys performing at Highfield Theater and coaching her children’s Destination Imagination team. 

Jan Lhormer, is a professional painter who holds a B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Boston University Visual Arts and has taught drawing, painting, papermaking and design at colleges and institutions throughout New England. She has exhibited extensively and is currently represented by the Lyman Eyer Gallery in Provincetown and Gallery 333 in North Falmouth. Jan’s Web site is www.jlmfa.com .

Ed Lott has coached both boys and girls soccer in independent schools for over 15 years at both the high school and middle school level. For the last four years, he has also coached youth soccer for the YMCA for children between the ages of 4-7 years. He has been the director of the Falmouth Academy Summer Soccer for six years. 

Stephanie Mastroianni has taught seventh grade Humanities at Falmouth Academy for two years. Before living in Cape Cod, she taught history to children ages ten through thirteen in Boston, New York City and Virginia. She has a B.A. in Sociology from Syracuse University and an M.A. in Teaching from Suffolk University. A summer resident of Cape Cod since she was seven, she has lived in Falmouth for ten years with her husband and four children exploring and investigating the treasures of this beautiful landscape.

In Sandy Nickerson’s classrooms the concentrated energy of even the youngest student is palpable. Her extensive teaching experience involves many years at Bridgeview School and the Cape Cod Conservatory. As a practicing artist, she is well versed in all paper media and offers students the opportunity to explore drawing, painting and printmaking in any combination.

Sheila Payne is a lifelong educator and artist. She is experienced in many artistic media and is one of the few active batik artists in our area. She currently offers art classes at the Falmouth Conservatory and serves as a teacher in its nursery-kindergarten program.

Anne Pickart is the founder and president of Falmouth Girls Youth Lacrosse, a spring travel program for girls in first through eighth grade. She learned lacrosse in high school and played defense on the varsity team at Colgate University and two years with the Boston Women’s lacrosse Club. Anne has coached youth lacrosse for ten years and enjoys passing on her love of the game to new players.

George Scharr, Summer Sounds Music Camp director, is an FA faculty member who teaches Advanced Jazz, Brass Ensemble and Musicin-the-Humanities at Falmouth Academy for eight years.  He is education director and a musician with the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and conductor of the Symphony Swing Band. Jacek Zuzanski is a professionally educated actor, stage director, designer and teacher and has worked in theatre for 25 years. His sensitivity and passion for the arts inspire the young to learn. Currently, he teaches acting at Falmouth Academy and has his own puppetry theatre called Dream Tale Puppets. Jacek received a master’s degree from the State School of Drama in Krakow, Poland.

Payment/Cancellation Policy

Payment policy:
Full balance of program tuition is due May 1. Applications submitted after May 1 must be accompanied by full payment.
Cancellation policy:
$20 application fee is non-refundable. After June 1 course fee minus $100 cancellation fee will be refunded.

This camp must comply with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and is licensed by the local board of health.
