Falmouth Academy Athletics
Falmouth Academy's interest in sports lies both in their impact on the physical and mental development of our students and in the common thread each season's sport provides to the community of the school. Our athletic program is as focused as our academic program. We offer one team sport each season--soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, and lacrosse in the spring--with varsity, junior varsity, and middle school teams for boys and for girls.
FA teacher/coaches have the same high expectations for their players as they do for their students: expectations for learning, for teamwork, for perseverance, for thorough preparation, and for grace under pressure. All FA students are encouraged to play on FA teams, just as they are encouraged to audition for plays and join music groups. All students who want to play will play.
Our student-athletes and coaches have proved that even with our commitment to an inclusive, no-cuts athletic program, our athletic teams can excel. In the past five years, FA varsity teams have won 14 league championships and 4 New England championships. In 2001-02, our teams won the Southeastern New England Independent School Athletic Association (SENE) Sportsmanship award. The girls' varsity basketball team has won the basketball referees' sportsmanship award three times.
