Falmouth Academy at a Glance

  • Serving grades 7 through 12, FA is a coed, independent preparatory day school of approximately 200 students from 23 towns and four countries.

     

  • The school is easily accessible from on and off Cape Cod with four daily bus routes to and from Duxbury, Mattapoisett, Hyannis, and Woods Hole.
     
  • FA fields competitive Varsity, JV and Middle School teams in three sports: soccer, basketball, lacrosse. In the past year, two Varsity teams have won Cape and Islands League Championships.
     
  • Signature programs include Arts Across the Curriculum, Science in the Real World, The Authentic Voice (writing and speaking), and The Fourth Period (40-plus electives)
     
  • 100 percent college matriculation ... and an impressive list of colleges and universities our graduates attend.
     
  • FA ranks in the top 10 of all Massachusetts high schools in percentage of the senior class recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program.
  • All classes are discussion based. Average class size is 12.
  • 34-acre campus with fields adjacent to Beebe Woods.
     
  • More than 40 electives that range from Latin to Taekwondo.
     
  • Our students regularly place in the Congressional Arts Competition, SISAL Arts competition, Cape Cod Times Classroom Times Photo Competition and the Cape Cod Art Association Statewide Photo Competition.
     
  • Eleven semifinalists and three finalists in national research-based, high school science competitions, including Intel, Siemens, and Westinghouse.
     
  • Our students have earned 15 invitations and 13 awards at the International Science and Engineering Fair.
     
  • Our students have earned approximately 150 top prizes (first, second, third) at the Massachusetts State Science & Engineering Fair at MIT.
     
  • Eight students have published scientific research in scholarly journals while attending F.A.
     
  • Several Upper School students undertake internships in Woods Hole laboratories every year dozens of students have Woods Hole scientists as mentors for Science Fair projects.
  • In the past eight years, F.A. students took 233 AP exams: 89 percent of them scored at 3 or above; 73 percent scored 4 or 5, and 36 percent had the top score of 5.
  • FA is committed to conservation and sustainability.  Our campus houses a 10K wind turbine, a 77 KW solar panel system, several beehives, and a greenhouse. We recycle and compost daily.
  • In 2015, 32 FA German students participanted in Levels 2, 3, and 4 of the American Association of Teachers of German Natinal German Exam: six students received a bronze award (70th to 79th percentile), nine students received a silver award (80th to 89th percentile), and nine students received a gold award (90th percentile or higher).
